Cambridge Loses Key Region Matchup 3-0 to Alpharetta, Wednesday, April 19th

Cambridge and Alpharetta played a key game Wednesday night with the winner assuring themselves of a playoff berth.  The host Raiders took advantage of a few Cambridge miscues to pull out the victory and move into sole possession of second place.  Cambridge now has a must-win game at home on Friday against the hottest team in the region, North Atlanta.

Austin Weiermiller took the mound for the Bears and pitched admirably.  The Cambridge defense did not serve him well in the key third inning.  A strikeout and a single set up an error on a potential double play ball and the Raiders took advantage of the help.  A pop fly single that landed perfectly on the line in left loaded the bases.  A single, sac fly and a passed ball pushed three runs across for the home team, giving them a 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, the Cambridge bats were mostly silent.  A two-out double by Sam Waylock in the second went for naught.  A lead-off single in the fifth by Blake Renner was erased by a double play.  Singles by Bradley Wiedman and Renner in the seventh got runners on the corners with two outs, but the rally ended there with a 3-0 defeat.

Weiermiller took the tough luck loss, going the distance and allowing zero earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.  Renner led the way with two hits, while Waylock had the lone extra base hit of the game.

Cambridge goes out of region on Thursday, April 20th with a game at Buford.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

The Bears conclude the regular season with a must-win game at home on Friday, April 21st against North Atlanta.  That game is senior night, so come out early. Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
