Weiermiller Shuts Out Alpharetta 1-0 for Key Region Victory, Wednesday, March 22nd

Weiermiller Shuts Out Alpharetta 1-0 for Key Region Victory, Wednesday, March 22nd

Cambridge faced a critical game as it nears the mid point of the region schedule and came away with a hard fought victory over second place Alpharetta Wednesday night, March 22nd.  Austin Weiermiller led the way on the mound, and the Bears managed a third inning run to take the 1-0 win.

Weiermiller set the tone in the first by striking out three Raiders hitters.  The Cambridge offense came out of the gate slowly, but managed the game's only run in the third.  Blake Renner got the Bears first hit with one out on a double down the left field line.  After an infield out, Sam Waylock stepped to the plate and lofted a single to center that scored Renner to give the Bears a lead they would not surrender.

Meanwhile, Weiermiller was cruising along going 1-2-3 in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.  Cambridge managed to get runners on the corner in the fifth via singles by Renner and Waylock but could not push an insurance run across.

Alpharetta would not go quietly in the seventh.  A one-out triple got a run in scoring position for the first time in the game.  A strikeout and a walk put runners on the corner with two outs, but Weiermiller coaxed a popout to Bradley Wiedman to end the rally and the game.

Weiermiller got the win, going the distance with twelve strikeouts, allowing three hits.  Waylock, Renner and Cameron Moore accounted for the offense for the Bears with two hits each.  Renner had a double and a run scored and Waylock had the key RBI.

Cambridge completes the first half of region play with a game at North Atlanta on Friday, March 24th.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
