Cambridge Baseball Loses 4-2 to Centennial, Friday, March 17th

Cambridge loses a key region showdown Friday night, March 17th, to drop its region record to 2-4 as the offense fails to capitalize on scoring opportunities.  Bears pitchers Hayden Onorato and Blake Renner pitch well in the 4-2 loss.

Centennial scored first in the second inning courtesy of a runner getting to first on a dropped third strike.  That runner would eventually score on a two-out wild pitch. The Bears tied the game up in the bottom of the inning.  An Austin Weiermiller walk and a Teddy Egan bunt single set up an RBI single to center by Renner to tie the score at 1-1.

A couple of hit by pitches and a sacrifice fly pushed Centennial back in front 2-1 in the third.  A Michael Kolesar infield single and a sacrifice fly by Bradley Wiedman tied the score at 2-2 in the bottom of the third.  Three singles and a Cambridge error in the fourth gave the visitors a lead they would not relinquish.  The Cambridge offense never mounted a threat after that and the game ended in a 4-2 loss.

Renner took the tough loss, going five innings in relief, allowing one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts.  The offense accounted for five hits from Kolesar, Wiedman, Andrew Spears, Egan and Renner.  Renner and Wiedman had RBIs.

Cambridge is scheduled to play a DH at Lanier HS on Saturday the 18th, subject to cooperation from Mother Nature.  Game times are now TBD.

Go Bears!
