Strong Pitching Leads Cambridge to 3-0 Victory over Chattahoochee, Wednesday, March 15th

Cambridge evened its region record at 2-2 on the back of an outstanding pitching performance from senior Austin Weiermiller on a chilly evening of baseball at Chattahoochee, Wednesday, March 15th.  Weiermiller was in control throughout the game and helped the Bears stop a two-game losing streak in the process.

Cambridge struck quickly in the first.  Michael Kolesar beat out an infield hit to lead off the game.  Christian Lail then did the same thing and the Bears had a runner in scoring position with no outs.  The bats cooled from there, however a double steal got Kolesar to third where he eventually scored on a wild pitch to give the visitors an early lead that they would not relinquish.

Weiermiller took over from there, setting the tone by striking out the side in the first.  He scattered a hit in the second and a walk in the third.  A walk in the fourth was erased by catcher Teddy Egan on a stolen base attempt.  Meanwhile, the Bears offense was as cold as the 29 degree evening air.  However, the offense sparked to life in the fifth.  A two-out double down the left field line by Blake Renner set up a triple down the right field line by Kolesar to push the score to 2-0.  Another wild pitch pushed Kolesar home for a 3-0 lead.

Weiermiller struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth and secured two more strikeouts in a 1-2-3 sixth.  Pushing his pitch count limit, he was relieved with an out in the seventh by Renner.  A hit by pitch moved a Chattahoochee runner into scoring position for the first time on the evening, but a flyout to right and a strikeout ended the threat and secured the 3-0 region victory.

Weiermiller went 6 1/3 innings, allowing a single hit while striking out 13.  Renner earned his first career save.  Kolesar led the offense with a pair of hits, including a big triple, two runs scored and an RBI.  Renner had a double and a run scored.  Lail had the other hit for the Bears

Cambridge continues region play with a home makeup game Thursday, March 16th at 5:55 PM against Dunwoody.  Friday they host Centennial in another region game at 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
