Cambridge Baseball Loses Late to Milton 2-1, Saturday, March 4th

Cambridge pitching holds the Milton offense scoreless for the first 13 innings over two games, but surrenders two runs in the final inning to fall 2-1 in game two Saturday afternoon, March 4th at Cambridge field.

Hayden Onorato took the mound for the Bears and worked out of a jam in the first by working a pop out with a couple in scoring position.  Cambridge scored its lone run in the bottom of the first.  A two-out walk by Conner Young set up a double to right center by Jake Swiacki, allowing Young to score from first for the 1-0 lead. That would be the score until late in the game.

Onorato again worked out of trouble in the second and third, gaining strikeouts to end both innings.  Meanwhile, the Cambridge offense was getting nothing going. Blake Renner entered the game for the Bears in the fourth and escaped trouble with a ground out and a pop up.  Both teams went 1-2-3 in the fifth.  Renner worked another perfect sixth, but the Bears could not capitalize on a pair of singles by Michael Kolesar and Sam Waylock in the bottom of the inning.

A pair of one-out doubles right down the third base line tied up the score in the top of the seventh.  After a strikeout, Milton hit a ground ball through the hole at short driving in the go ahead run to give the Eagles their first lead of the series.  Cambridge got a walk from Bradley Wiedman in the bottom of the seventh but could do nothing else as the game ended 2-1 in favor of the visiting Eagles.

Renner took the loss, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work.  Onorato went three scoreless innings, allowing a hit with four strikeouts.  The Bears offense could only muster three hits on the afternoon.  Swiacki had the big RBI double and Kolesar and Waylock had singles.

Cambridge opens region play with three games this coming week.  They play at Northview on Monday, March 6th, home against Johns Creek on Wednesday, March 8th, and at Pope on Friday, March 10th.  All games begin at 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
