Varsity Baseball Takes Tough Extra Inning Loss to River Ridge 6-5, Tuesday, February 28th

In a back and forth game, Cambridge allowed a 7th inning run to send the game to extra innings and an eventual loss in the 9th inning to the River Ridge Knights on Tuesday, February 28th.

The Bears would take the first lead of the game in the opening inning.  A one-out double by Sam Waylock set up a line drive single to right by Conner Young, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead.  The home team pushed across a run in the bottom of the first off of Cambridge starter Jon Hirschland to tie the score.  Cambridge pushed two more across in the third.  Walks by Young and Hayden Onorato set up a well-executed sacrifice bunt by Bradley Wiedman.  Crew Cohoes then delivered a double, knocking in both players for a 3-1 lead.

River Ridge pushed across three runs in the fifth off of reliever Ryan Fahey to take a 4-3 lead.  The Bears struck back quickly in the sixth.  Michael Kolesar reached base by error to get things going.  Waylock drove his second double of the game to score Kolesar.  Young stepped to the plate and delivered a clutch single to right to push the score in favor of the visitors to 5-4.  But that was all the offense the Bears would muster.

River Ridge pushed across the tying run in the bottom of the seventh off of Michael Polk, doing all of their damage with two outs.  Neither team threatened in the eighth, and River Ridge ended the game in the ninth on a single through a drawn-in infield.

Polk took the loss, allowing two earned runs on three hits in four innings of work.  Hirschland went four innings, allowing a run on three hits.  Waylock led the offense with a pair of doubles and two runs scored  Young had two hits and two RBI.  Cohoes drove in a pair with a double.

Cambridge next plays at Milton in a non-region game Friday, March 3rd at 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
