Cambridge Varsity Baseball Takes Down West Forsyth 11-2, Friday, February 24th

After a rough stretch of games, the Cambridge varsity baseball team needed a great performance to get things moving in the right direction.  With a road win over an always tough West Forsyth Wolverines squad on Friday, Feb. 24th, they may have just gotten what they needed.

It wasn't looking good for the visitors in the first few innings.  Austin Weiermiller started on the bump for the Bears and surrendered a run in the second to give the home team a 1-0 lead.  Other than a Michael Kolesar double to start the game, the offense wasn't clicking through the first three innings.  Fortunes would change in the fourth.  Bradley Wiedman lined a double over the head of the center fielder to begin the rally.  Teddy Egan singled to left with two outs to drive in Wiedman and move Blake Renner, who had walked, to third.  Cameron Moore launched a rocket off the wall in left to drive in those two and make the score 3-1 for the Bears. Kolesar singled to right, driving in Moore for a 4-1 lead.  A Sam Waylock double kept the inning going, but the Bears rally ended there.

The onslaught continued in the fifth as consecutive singles by Conner Young, Wiedman and Crew Cohoes loaded the bases.  Renner drove in Young with a sac fly to center and Cohoes scored on an error, pushing to score to 6-1 after five innings.  Young drove in another run in the sixth after a Waylock walk and a Mitch Fleming single.  A West Forsyth run in the sixth pushed the score to 7-2.  The Bears scored four more in the seventh courtesy of singles by Egan, Renner and Young, and a double by Wiedman.  Sophomore Michael Polk pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game and the 11-2 victory.

Weiermiller went four innings to earn the win, allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts.  Wiedman led the offense with three hits and a pair of doubles. Young had three hits and a pair of RBI.  Kolesar, Waylock and Egan each had two hits and Moore drove in two with a double.

The Bears continue non-region play with a game at River Ridge on Tuesday, February 28th.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
