Bears Varsity Baseball Loses Back and Forth Affair to Norcross 5-3, Wednesday, February 22nd

The Cambridge Bears varsity baseball squad traveled to Norcross for a return game with the host Blue Devils, Wednesday, February 22nd.  The game was tight throughout, but the home team scored three late runs to earn the victory.

Cambridge struck first in opening inning.  A two-out double to left by Mitch Fleming got things started.  Hayden Onorato followed that up with a single to left scoring Fleming for a 1-0 lead.  That lead would not last long as Norcross scored two in the bottom of the inning off of Cambridge starter Blake Renner to take a 2-1 lead. Cambridge came right back in the second to tie up the game.  A Sam Waylock walk and a single by Luke Foote set up a Michael Kolesar single to right to drive in Waylock.

Ryan Fahey entered the game for the Bears and pitched two innings of scoreless relief.  The Bears jumped back in front in the fourth courtesy of walks by Cameron Moore and Michael Kolesar, setting up a sacrifice fly by Christian Lail to make the score 3-2 in favor of the visitors.  However, Norcross scored three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good courtesy of a couple of walks, an error and a clutch single.  The Bears failed to get a runner into scoring position in either the sixth or the seventh and the game ended 5-3.

Hayden Onorato took the loss for the Bears, surrendering a pair of runs without giving up a hit, and included one strikeout.  Austin Weiermiller closed things out on the mound with a scoreless inning with 3 strikeouts  Fahey went two scoreless innings, allowing a single hit with three strikeouts.

Fleming had a double with a run scored, while Kolesar had the lone RBI on the evening to lead the offense.

The Bears play next on Friday, February 24th with a game at West Forsyth.  Game time is 5:00 PM
