Cambridge Varsity Baseball Loses 7-3 to Woodstock, Monday, February 20th

The Cambridge Bears varsity baseball team returned to the diamond Monday evening, February 20th for a home game against the Woodstock Wolverines.  The Bears jumped out to an early lead but could not hold on as the visitors stormed back for the victory.

Conner Young started on the mound for Cambridge and managed an uneventful first inning.  The Bears came to bat in the bottom of the inning and jumped on the Woodstock starter.  A Michael Kolesar HBP, a Cameron Moore walk and an error on a bunt by Sam Waylock loaded the bases.  Hayden Onorato drove in the first run with a ground out to second.  Bradley Wiedman stepped to the plate and lined a two-out single to right field, scoring both Moore and Waylock to push the score to 3-0.  That would be pretty much it for the offense from that point forward, however.

Woodstock scored a run in the second and three more in the third to take the lead for good.  Three more runs for the visitors in the fourth finished out the scoring for the teams.  Ryan Fahey and Michael Polk combined for three innings of shutout relief for the Bears.

Young took the loss, going three innings and allowing four runs with three strikeouts.  Blake Renner led the offense with two hits, one of those a double.  Bradley Wiedman had two RBI.

Cambridge resumes non-region play with a game at Norcross on Wednesday, February 22.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
