Record-Breaking Baseball Season Ends with 2-0 Defeat to Houston County in 2nd Round of Playoffs, Thursday, May 5th

The Cambridge Bears baseball team ended its season Thursday night, May 5th after a tough 2-0 loss to a Houston County squad that featured a pair of flame-throwers. Their Florida State bound lefty proved to be too much in game three of the series, though the game was in doubt until the very end.

For Cambridge's part, junior Jon Hirschland was nearly the equal to his counterpart, going the distance for the visitors.  The only blemish on the day was a second inning wind-aided 2-run home run that accounted for the only runs of the game.  Other than that, he struck out a personal high eight batters without a walk. Offensively, a Davis Dasher first inning single to left and a Hayden Onorato infield single in the seventh were the only hits for Cambridge.

The Bears ended their record-breaking season with a 24-6 record, including a 17-3 record in region.  The junior-laden squad was led by four seniors who will long be remembered for their efforts.  Brett Hawkins, Davis Dasher, Jon Mullis and Pete Gottschalk were great players and leaders and will be missed terribly by those associated with the program.

Go Bears!
