Cambridge Wins Non-Region Tilt 6-2 Versus Pace Academy, Tuesday, April 12th

Venturing out of region play for the first time since the beginning of the season, the Cambridge varsity squad beat Pace Academy by a score of 6-2 Tuesday evening at Pace.  Jon Mullis provided another strong start on the mound and the offense supported the cause with eight hits, three for extra bases.  The win is the 16th in a row for the Bears.

Neither team could get anything going in the first two innings as both pitchers were in complete command.  The Bears offense came to life in the third.  Junior Tyler Malloni led off the inning with a soft liner that just evaded the first and second basemen.  Christian Lail entered the game as a courtesy runner and moved to second on a Cameron Moore walk.  Davis Dasher stepped up and lined a ball down the left field line for a double that scored both runners.  Dasher then stole third and scored on an errant throw by the catcher to push the score to 3-0.

Sam Waylock doubled in the fourth but was left stranded.  Meanwhile, Mullis was mowing batters down, striking out the side in the bottom of the inning to finish off his day.  Brice Shafer entered the game on the mound for the Bears.  He allowed an unearned run in the fifth before pitching a perfect sixth.

The Bears offense came back to life in the seventh against the Pace reliever.  Waylock led off with a walk and stole second.  He moved to third on a ground ball out by Michael Kolesar.  Christian Lail got his first career hit and RBI on a flare over the infield to plate Waylock and make the score 4-1.  Brett Hawkins singled to right and Lail came around to score on an error by the right fielder.  Jacob Cabe came to the plate and launched a towering triple to center field to make the score 6-1.

Freshman Blake Renner saw his first action on the mound in the seventh, allowing a run on two hits to close out the game 6-2 for the visitors.

Mullis took the win, going four shutout innings and allowing one hit with nine strikeouts and a walk.  Shafer went two innings allowing an unearned run on one hit with a strikeout.   Davis Dasher led the way offensively, getting two hits with 2 RBI and a run scored.  Brett Hawkins had two hits and scored a run.  Sam Waylock had a double and Jacob Cabe tripled in his only at bat.

The Bears finish regular season play Thursday, April 14th in a non-region game at Creekview.  Game time is 5:55 PM.
