Dasher Leads Cambridge Varsity Baseball to 16-4 Victory over Riverwood, Friday, March 11th

Senior Davis Dasher led a Bears offense that combined for 9 hits and 13 walks to run away from Riverwood for a 16-4 region win to sweep the series in a game played at Old Milton HS, Friday, March 11th.  The game was never in doubt after the first inning as the Bears put up 6 runs and never looked back. 

Hayden Onorato started things off in the first with a 2-RBI double to center that plated Cameron Moore and Pete Gottschalk, both of whom reached base on a hit-by-pitch.  Brett Hawkins later drove in Onorato and Conner Young with a single to center.  Dasher drove in two more with a line drive single to center to make the score 6-0.  Luke Foote added two more in the second inning with a single to left driving in Bradley Wiedman and Austin Weiermiller. 

Riverwood plated two in the third on a 2-run home run to close the gap to 8-2. The Bears scored another in the 4th on an RBI single by Dasher and two more in the 5th when Gottschalk scored on an error and Jake Swiacki scored on a single by Conner Young to make the score 11-2.  Riverwood scored a run in the bottom of the inning, but the visitors answered with 5 more in the 6th, featuring RBI singles by Wiedman and Sam Waylock and a sac fly by Young. 

On the mound, starter Jon Mullis picked up the win with an efficient performance.  He went 4 innings and gave up 2 runs on 2 hits with 3 strike outs and no walks.  Michael Viafora, Ryan Fahey and Brice Shafer closed out the game on the hill for the Bears. 

Dasher led the way offensively with 3 hits in as many at bats, driving in 3 runs.  Brett Hawkins, Conner Young, Hayden Onorato and Luke Foote had 2 RBI each and Pete Gottschalk scored 3 times. 

The Bears resume region play Monday, March 14th with a home game against North Atlanta.  Game time is 5:55 PM.
