Weiermiller Strikes Out 15 to Lead Bears Varsity Baseball to 12-2 Victory over Riverwood

Clutch hitting and strong pitching from starter Austin Weiermiller led the Bears to a convincing road win over Riverwood at Old Milton HS Monday night, March 7th. Cambridge made the most of its 7 hits, which included four for extra bases.

The Bears got off to a fast start, plating 4 runs in the first.  Jacob Cabe started things off with a double to left center.  He later scored on a groundout by Weiermiller.  A Pete Gottschalk walk, a single by Hayden Onorato and a walk by Conner Young loaded the bases.  Luke Foote stepped to the plate and cleared the bases with a double to center field to put the Bears up 4-0.  Bradley Wiedman singled and scored on a wild pitch in the second to push the lead to 5-2.  Hayden Onorato smashed a 2-run home run to left center in the third to make the score 7-2.

Cambridge added 2 runs in the 4th and another in the 6th to move the score to 10-2.  Bradley Wiedman hit a long double to left center in the 7th inning to highlight the action as the Bears scored their final runs of the game to finish the score at 12-2.

Weiermiller, meanwhile, was on cruise control, allowing only two base runners after the first inning.  He totaled 15 strikeouts in his 6 innings of work, allowing 3 hits with 2 walks.  Conner Young closed out the game with a perfect inning of work.

Offensively, Hayden Onorato led the way with two hits and a pair of walks in his 4 plate appearances.  He clubbed the 2-run HR and scored twice.  Bradley Wiedman had two hits and a walk and scored 3 times.  Pete Gottschalk scored 3 times on a pair of walks and 2 HBP.  Luke Foote and Jacob Cabe each had doubles.

The Bears continue their series with Riverwood with a Wednesday, March 9th home game at 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
