Bears Varsity Baseball Outhits Bulldogs but Lose 7-3, Friday, March 4th

The Cambridge Bears outhit the home team Forsyth Central Friday night, March 4th by a margin of 7 to 2.  However, they could not translate that advantage to a victory as the Bulldogs took advantage of 9 walks and 7 hit-by-pitches to claim the region win.

Forsyth jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first thanks to a hit-by-pitch, three walks and a sac fly.  Hayden Onorato entered the game in relief of starter Michael Viafora and settled things down for the Bears.  Cambridge struck for 2 runs in the fourth to narrow the score to 3-2.  Austin Weiermiller doubled to RF to start the inning and came around to score on an error on a ground ball off the bat of Pete Gottschalk.  Gottschalk came around to score on yet another error but the rally ended there with two runners stranded.

As they have most of the series, Forsyth quickly responded with two runs of its own in the bottom of the 4th without the benefit of a hit to extend their lead to 5-2. They scored another run in the 5th to move to 6-2.  At this point in the game Forsyth had yet to record its first hit.  The Bears threatened again in the 6th, but failed to capitalize.

Down 7-2 going into the last inning, the Bears made one final push.  Davis Dasher led off with a clean single to left and scored on a double by Austin Weiermiller.  But the rally ended there as the Forsyth closer finished out the game for the 7-3 victory.

Cambridge starter Michael Viafora took the loss, his first on the season.  Austin Weiermiller led the way offensively with 3 hits, including two doubles, plus a walk and a run scored.  Conner Young got on base all three times he came to bat with a single and two walks.  Davis Dasher, Luke Foote and Bradley Wiedman all had hits.

The Bears continue region play this week with an away game Monday, March 7th against Riverwood at Old Milton HS.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
