Cambridge Varsity Baseball Falls to Forsyth Central, Wednesday, March 2nd

The Bears lost game two of their three game series against region rival Forsyth Central Wednesday at Cambridge field.  Timely hitting and stout pitching were a winning combination for the visiting Bulldogs.

Central pushed across 3 runs in the second inning against Cambridge starter Jon Mullis.  Four singles led to the three runs as the visitors went up 3-0.  Cambridge bounced right back in the bottom of the inning, pushing across 2 runs.  Conner Young got the 2-out rally started with a hit-by-pitch.  Luke Foote followed with a single.  Brett Hawkins also got hit by a pitch to load the bases before Crew Cohoes knocked in the first run on a clean single to right.  Forsyth's starting pitcher continued with a streak of wildness by hitting Cameron Moore to plate the second run of the inning.

The score remained 3-2 in to the 6th inning as both starting pitchers found their groove to keep the opposing teams in check.  A couple of Mullis walks brought Michael Leeman to the mound for Cambridge in the 6th, but a clutch hit and a wild pitch pushed across 3 Forsyth runs before the Bears could get out of the inning.

The Bears mounted a threat in the 7th inning, scoring a run on an error after a Brett Hawkins single.  A Pete Gottschalk hit-by-pitch knocked out the Forsyth starting pitcher, but the closer got the final out of the game with the tying run at the plate to end the rally and secure the 6-3 victory.

Mullis took the loss for the Bears, allowing 5 runs on 7 hits, striking out 3 in 5 1/3 innings of work. Senior Pete Gottschalk continued his hot hitting to start the season with 2 hits to lead the offense.

The Bears close out the 3-game set with Forsyth Central Friday night, March 4th at their field.  Game time is 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
