Jon Mullis pitched a gem of a game Wednesday night, Feb. 17th at Centennial HS throwing a no-hitter while striking out 6 in his five innings of work as the Bears ended the game early by run rule. Mullis received quite a bit of support from his offense with an assist from a leaky Centennial defense as the game was never in doubt.
The Bears struck quickly in the first on a line drive single to left by Jacob Cabe, plating two runners, and an RBI single by Pete Gottschalk to go up 3-0. Cambridge added a single run in the 3rd and three more in the 4th to take a commanding 7-0 lead.
The Bears closed out the game in the 6th, plating 5 runs. A Cameron Moore walk and singles by Austin Weiermiller and Crew Cohoes started the inning off before a sacrifice fly by Davis Dasher pushed the score to 10-0. Conner Young closed out the scoring by hitting a long 2-run home run to left field to put the finishing touches on a 12-0 victory, the first of the season for the Bears.
Crew Cohoes and Pete Gottschalk led the way for the offense, each tallying two hits with Cohoes scoring 3 runs. Jacob Cabe and Conner Young each knocked in two runs, while Luke Foote and Austin Weiermiller both had a hit.
The Bears are now 1-0 on the young season and host Peachtree Ridge in a non-region matchup Friday, Feb. 19th at 5:55 PM.
