Bears Freshman Baseball Split Two with Etowah, Friday, April 3rd

A seven-run explosion in the fourth inning carried the Bears to a 13-3 win in five innings over Etowah Friday night, April 3rd, as the Freshman Bears end their season.

In the top of the first, Etowah grabbed the early lead, 2-0. Etowah's threat began with three singles scoring two. Etowah then tacked on more runs when scored on an RBI single. The lead stayed with the Bears after the second, when they scored five runs on two errors.

The Bears scored in the fourth on a walk by Al Webb, an RBI single by Jordin D'Aversa-Williams, followed by a series of errors by Etowah. Later Webb racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Bears. Carson Friden doubled to center field increasing the Cambridge lead.

The Bears bats were alive in this needed win at home. D'Aversa-Williams had 4 RBIs followed by Mason Stanley with 2 RBIs. Matt Gustafson on the mound for an outstanding 4 innings 17 first strike pitches and 2 strikeouts. The Bears defense, lead by Teddy Egan behind the plate, was solid.  

The Bears lost the second game 8-1 as Etowah's rally began in the third inning, scoring four runs on two errors. Etowah increased its lead with four runs in the fourth. D'Aversa-Williams lone run of the game for the Bears came in the fourth inning on a passed ball.

Coach Matt Lawless commented after the game, "We fulfilled our three goals for this season, and I have thoroughly enjoyed coaching this team of talented young men. I looked forward to the practices and games as the best part of my day."
