Cambridge Varsity Baseball Defeats North Springs, 10-2, Tuesday, April 21st

The Cambridge Bears jumped out to an early lead on North Springs and captured a 10-2 victory on Tuesday, April 21st at the Lakepoint Complex.

With six runs in the first three innings, the Cambridge Bears left no doubt about the eventual outcome.

An 11 hit attack ignited by a RBI single by Sam Wilson in the second inning helped the Bears sweep North Springs in the final regular season game of the 2015 campaign.

Brian Moore racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Bears. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth inning.  Nick Sieverts, Matthew Hughes, Crew Cohoes, Austin Weiermiller and Pete Gottschalk added base knocks for the Bears.

Austin Weiermiller pitched lights out for the Bears. Weiermiller gave up just one hit, allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out three during his three innings of work.  A committee of pitchers - Michael Leeman, Michael Viafora, Conner Young and Parker Currier - worked an inning apiece allowing just 1 hit - to close out a superior pitching performance by the Cambridge staff.

North Springs pitcher Capp ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He lasted just two innings, walked three, struck out none, and allowed five runs.

The Bears piled on three more runs in the top of the fifth. A hit into a fielder's choice scored Pete Gottschalk for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Moore's double, bringing home Crew Cohoes and Nick Sieverts.

Next up for the Bears, their first trip to the AAAAA Region 7 Play-offs, with games Wednesday (4/22) at Sequoyah; Thursday (4/23) is Senior Night @ Cambridge; and Friday (4/24) back at Sequoyah.  All games start at 5:55 PM.

Go Bears!
